Does my cat have kitty pink eye?
ok so around 10:30 this morning my kitten (around 5-6 months old) was being her normal crazy self, running around, jumping off the furniture, and attacking our two other cats (one being 1 year and the other being 3). about an hour later i noticed that the kitten’s, sophie’s, right eye was watering. she fell asleep for 30 min. and as usual me walking by woke her up. i noticed that she had a light-yellow goo in and around her eye. i opened it to get a better look at the eye (as usual she aloud it) and it was light pink on the third eye lid and in the corners. she has been squinting and shuting her eye alot as well. we have put the other cats outside and are continuously monitoring the eye. i am getting really scared for little sophie. is it contajous to people if it is pink eye? is it expensive to get treatment for kitty pink eye? i would really apreciate the help please, please reply to this question i am really worried for her.
You need to consult with a vet. It likely is a herpes virus. Most cats harbor a herpes virus, and things like stress can cause it to flare up. You really want to act promptly, although normally it is not a four alarm emergency. You may get some drops prescribed for her eyes, and ask about adding lysine to her food. Also, lysine for your other kitties. It may be contagious to your other cats, but not likely to you.
If it is herpes, adding lysine weakens the virus, and most cats then keep it under control. Herpes is common in kittens.
If it is herpes, it is inexpensive to treat.
